Striker signs long deal

Reading striker Shane Long has signed a new deal keeping him at the club until the summer of 2012. The 23-year-old`s current contract was set to expire next summer, but the Royals have now tied the Republic of Ireland international to a longer deal. Manager Brian McDermott said: "I'm delighted Shane has committed to the club by signing a new contract with us. "He was one of four strikers who helped us make history in 2005/06, playing a valuable part in the squad that earned promotion with 106 points, and he also scored crucial goals at the very highest level during our two seasons in the Premier League." Long has scored 31 goals for the Royals.
