Reading could be boosted by the return of Martin Butler, Marcus Hahnemann and John Mackie for the visit of Ipswich Town next Saturday.

The trio, who didn't play against Grimsby last week, are all set to return to training on Monday after a spell on the sidelines.

Martin Butler, who scored a hat-trick for the reserves just over a week ago, has had to sit out of the action for the past few days because of a bout of flu.

Marcus Hahnemann meanwhile is a slight doubt for the Ipswich game after injuring his calf just prior to the win at Grimsby. The American shotstopper has began light training and is now seeking full fitness.

Should Hahnemann not be fit to return to the team then Alan Pardew will likely call on rookie goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown next weekend.

Captain John Mackie is hoping to be fit again soon after spending almost two weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The former Sutton United player would have missed last weekend's fixture at Grimsby anyway because of suspension. A return to training on Monday should enable him to play some part next weekend.

Long-term injury victim Adie Whitbread has began doing some light training, he is targeting a late November return.
