Pardew believes that Reading legend Phil Parkinson has all the credentials to embark on a highly successful career in management.

Parky today left Reading to take control of struggling Second Division outift Colchester United.

Having seen the Royals legend complete his UEFA A coaching badge before getting involved in coaching at the Madejski Stadium, highly-rated Reading boss Alan Pardew is confident that Parkinson can prove himself at Layer Road.

"In my opinion the chairman of Colchester must be very astute, because although Parky has got limited experience he's a character who is going to do very well in management," said Pards, speaking to readingfc.co.uk.

"This is a fantastic situation for both Phil and Colchester United, and I'm sure their going to have a successful union. I really do wish both him and Colchester the very best of luck."

Parkinson, a 35-year-old battling midfielder left the Reading after more than a decade at the club, bringing the curtain down on a highly successful relationship which spanned eleven years, six managers and two grounds.
