Whilst forevermore insisting that the clubs goal is to gain promotion to the Premiership the clubs future appears to be in doubt with the likes of Alan Pardew, Kevin Dillon, Adie Williams, Sammy Igoe and Jamie Cureton all out of contract next summer.

The transfer window reopens in January, players and coaches in the final year of their deals will be able to sign agreements with other clubs and join them in the summer.

Despite the alarming situation Royals Chief Executive Nigel Howe seems reluctant to sit down and agree new deals with the figures in question.

"The board is aware of everybody's contract, but it is far too early to go into discussions. We will do that when we know how we are going to progress," said Howe, speaking to the Reading Evening Post.

"As far as the management team is concerned we will discuss them when the team is right, but as yet I don't know when that time is. As a board we have not discussed the matter but nobody has been knocking our door down from their side either.

"Of course I am happy with the way things are going. It is just a case of keeping things tight this year, that’s the way it will be."

Meanwhile, manager Alan Pardew believes that key personnel must sign new deals if the club is to continue to progress towards its goal of reaching the Premiership.

"We have shown that this team can bridge the gap between the Second and First Division and I believe we can get better," saids Pards, speaking to the Reading Evening Post.

"Through the Academy, reserves and first-team we continue to build for the future. The Premiership is where the chairman and supporters deserve to be. It's true key staff are out of contract. We need stability to finish the job ahead and I hope the chairman and the board recognise that."

The players out of contract are Jamie Cureton, Sammy Igoe, Anthony Rougier, Adie Williams, Adi Whitbread, Ricky Newman, Phil Whitehead, Phil Parkinson, Adi Viveash, Alex Smith, Ricky Allaway and Steve Warren.

Whilst coaches with less than a year left to run on their contract are boss Alan Pardew, his assistant Kevin Dillon, coaches Brian McDermott, Nicky Hammond, Brendan Rodgers, Nas Bashir, Geoff Warner, sports scientist Niall Clark and physio Glen Driscoll.

With so many players and coaches out of contract it is likely that Royals fans will see wholesale changes at the club next summer.
