John Fleck recovering in hospital after collapsing during Reading vs Sheffield United

Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck is recovering in hospital after collapsing on the pitch during their 1-0 win over Reading on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred partway through the second half at the Madejski Stadium with the game being halted for some time while Fleck was treated.

Sheffield United tweeted at the time: "Concerning moments as urgent medical attention needed for John Fleck. Play is yet to restart but the Scottish midfielder is on his feet and receiving further medical care."

They later added: "John Fleck leaves the field on a stretcher after receiving urgent medical care. Our thoughts are with you, Flecky!"

The Blades, who were 1-0 up at the time, went on to see out the victory and dedicated the three points to Fleck at full-time.

After the match, Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic revealed that Fleck was recovering in hospital - and even asked what the final score was.

“He is conscious, he asked for the result,” Jokanovic said. “He wanted to know and we hope that everything is going to be okay.

“Everything happened really quickly and he is in good hands now. I can not comment any more. But, I repeat, he is in safe hands and we clearly hope everything is going to be okay.”

Reading manager, Veljko Paunovic, added: “The experience was traumatic and it was horrible. I hope that John will return to normal life very soon and be back playing football as well as I know he can and has been playing.

“We send the best to him and his family,. We sincerely hope everything is okay.”

Fleck has been a consistent figure in the Blades' side this season, making 20 appearances in all competitions and registering one goal as well as one assist.
