McAnuff told BBC Berkshire: "One of the advantages of having less time off is not losing as much fitness.
"They've been careful with us but the boys have come back flying. I think we're ready to go."
Reading have trailed both Bristol Rovers and Swindon Town at the break before coming away with victory in pre-season.
And McAnuff explained: "We know when we're doing well and when we're not doing well. We just need to eradicate the early goals we're conceding.
"There's no point playing teams you're rolling over too easily, we want a test and it's great preparation going in [at half-time] a couple of times a goal down.
"We've always shown we're a strong team in the second half, so we just need to get that out and then I'm sure we'll be fine."
McAnuff is not too concerned about rumours linking star striker Shane Long with a move away.
He said: "It's the way it goes, most seasons there's speculation about one player or another.
"We're happy to have him here as long as we can, he's a great professional and he's not letting it get to him at all, he just keeps plugging away.
"The longer he's here the better it is for us and it's no distraction as long as he's in the team. While he's here he'll always give what he does for Reading."
Manager Brian McDermott experimented with playing McAnuff through central midfield during pre-season, and the Reading captain was happy to play his part.
"I don't mind [where I play] really, either way I try and make a bit of an impact. Wherever I play I'll try and get on with it.
"You can't beat a bit of match practice, it's nice to get 90 minutes in the legs really and we've got it in the tank for next week."
