De Zeeuw Agent: "The Door Is Not Closed"

Wigan's defender De Zeeuw is out of contract and has not managed to agree a new deal with the JJB Stadium side. The players agent, Humphrey Nijman, told the Wigan Evening Post "The door is not closed on anything yet but Wigan have made a proposal to Arjan that is worth less than the previous contract he had at Wigan."

"That's up to the club and we respect that, but Arjan has had to look elsewhere because he wants a deal that will give him more security. He's 32 now and the next contract is very important for him."

Reading have continually been linked with the De Zeeuw although Chairman John Madejski has always insisted that the club have no money to spend on new players.

The centre back's agent went on to reveal that his man is contemplating a move to a Division One Club.

"Also, he wants to play higher in his profession and that could sway his final decision. I'm not a visionary, I deal in facts. I don't know whether Arjan will stay or leave Wigan.

"There's concrete interest from two clubs in Division One and they are very keen to sign Arjan but we will have to wait and see what develops over the coming days.

"All I do know is he is very happy at Wigan and if they come back with a different proposal for him then I'm sure we will have discussions again. It is a big decision and he will not be rushed into anything, despite talk of a deadline."

Elsewhere, Division Two Play Off losers Brentford have released six players including Lloyd Owusu, Paul Evans and Ivar Ingimarsson who have all been linked with moves to the Royals.

Meanwhile, season ticket sales have now passed the two and a half thousand mark, with more than a thousand of them new season ticket holders. The club is hopeful that they can sell seven and a half thousand before the season starts again in August.
