Murty, who was awarded the fans player of the year award last year, was rushed into hospital having suffered whiplash in the accident.

Butler, meanwhile, who scored against Burnley last week, emerged from the crash unscathed, reports suggest he was shaken but not hurt.

The Mercedes that the pair were travelling in is believed to have been driven by Butler, although this is unconfirmed.

The incidednt happened at a junction on the A340 at around 1pm today.

The severity of Graeme Murty's injuries are not known at this time, however, they are not believed to be serious, both could be passed fit to play against Rotherham on Saturday.

On a much less serious note, Reading reserves have arranged a friendly against League and Cup Double Winners Arsenal reserves next week.

The match, due to be played behind closed doors, will see the long-awaited return of Freddie Ljungberg who has been suffering with a hip injury since June.
