Who Will Come Out On Top Next Season? A Walsall Fans Perspective

Last updated : 30 June 2003 By Rob Cooper
In the first of our Season 2003-04 Preview articles we asked our mates at Walsall MAD who they think will be at the top and the bottom of the league come May.

Who do you think will go up?
West Bromwich Albion, West Ham United, Ipswich Town

Who do you think will make the Play-Offs?
Ipswich Town, Norwich City, Sunderland, Sheffield United

Who do you think will get relegated?
Crewe look set to lose Hulse, and they don't look any stronger than when they were relegated two years ago, so they should srtuggle. Bradford are still having problems and ended last season poorly. Stoke might struggle too.
How do you think your team will fare this season?
Two decent finishes over the last couple of seasons (18th, 17th) but next season anything above 20th will do for me, due to a lack of funds, and the fact that 2 of the 3 promoted teams have money to spend, plus the likes of Grimsby and Stockport are no longer around to finish below us.
How well do you think Reading will perform next season?
Preston, Millwall, Norwich... they've all had good seasons in the past and then faded the year after. I can see a top 10 finish on the cards again although there are plenty of teams capable of finishing in the top ten. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground at the moment... just a lot of clubs who can do well and plenty of who could struggle. If you get of to a good start you should have another decent season.

Which team do you think will prove to be a 'surprise package'?
I think Palace could have a good season. They showed last season at times that they could play and if they can get Freedman playing every week who knows... apart from them, Wigan and Cardiff both have a few quid, and Wigan romped to the title last season, so they could break into the top 10.
