Despite speculation suggesting that FIFA's new-fangled transfer windows will be slammed shut on Nationwide League Clubs even though they requested a repreive, Alan Pardew's search for a new centre-back goes on.

Following the 2-0 grudge-match win over Walsall Alan Pardew told BBC Radio Berkshire: "Our search for defensive cover is on-going. With the possibility of the transfer window closing for us next week we may have to get a move on.

"I am considering either a loan or permanent signing."

Earlier this week the Royals had looked set to sign Colin Hendry but the move fell through when the ex-Scotland international failed to agree personal terms with the club.
