If Alan Pardew's words are to be believed then scouts from ten Premiership clubs were present at Blundell Park last weekend to watch Andy Hughes in action.

However, Pards insists that his energetic attacking midfielder will be going nowhere.

"I know there were 10 Premiership clubs at Grimsby watching him," said Pardew, speaking to BBC Sport Online.

"I don't think there can be many better attacking-midfielders outside the Premiership, in fact I'm sure there aren't, but he's not going anywhere."

Hughes enjoyed a good first season with the Royals last year. After shrugging off the Madejski Stadium boo-boys early on the Manchester born star put in some great displays, netting six times en route to promotion.

The 24-year-old has been one of Reading's most impressive players on their return to Division One after a five year absence. A brace at Walsall preceded a 35-yard wonderstrike against Wolves at Molineux almost three weeks ago. Hughes netted a further time against Grimsby last weekend.

Newcastle are amongst the ten Premiership sides believed to be interested in Hughes, the Teesiders have previously been linked with a £1 million swoop for the 5ft 11in attacking-midfielder, signed by Alan Pardew for £250,000 from Notts County in the summer of 2001.
