Rumours suggest that Italian Zamperini could brought in to play alongside John Mackie in central defence next season.

The 19-year-old was released by Pompey at the end of his contract, after sixteen apearances and two goals at the Fratton Park outfit. His previous clubs include Roma and West Ham.

Reading have money to spend after the Football League agreed a £95 million TV deal with media giants Sky. Chief Executive Nigel Howe previously stated that when TV money is sorted they will be ready to bolster the squad.

However, Pompey supporter Joe Michalczuk of portsmouth-mad.co.uk suggested that maybe he wouldn't be an ideal signing: "Zamperini leaves after arriving in dubious circumstances.

"He excelled in some games in defence but was guilty of making poor mistakes at times. He was never a favourite with the players who felt he was worse than the fans believed he was and will probably not be missed a great deal."
