Despite being released by the Cottagers on Monday Marcus Hahnemann has signed a new deal, although his new deal only lasts one month. The shot stopper is expected complete a full pre-seasons training with Fulham before leaving the club.

The 30-year-old American is still expected to leave Fulham, he isn't in the first team picture with experienced professionals such as Maik Taylor and Edwin Van Der Saar in front of him in the goalkeeping pecking order.

Not wanting to field the inexperienced Jamie Ashdown the Royals were forced to make two goalkeeper loan signings last season due to injuries to number one Phil Whitehead.

One of the 'keepers loaned in was Hahnemann who impressed during his one month spell at the club, keeping four clean sheets and conceding just three goals in six games.

The Fabien Barthez look-a-like told Fulham World: "It's nice to have that extra security instead of being totally out of contract. Having the extra leeway in case something doesn't happen straight away is very helpful.

"I'd love to stay in England so I'm just looking for a good opportunity to go and play somewhere."

Reading are yet to bolster their squad this summer, however, after Sky yesterday agreed a TV deal with the Football League money should now be available for Alan Pardew to invest in new players.

Alan Pardew has hinted in the past that he wants to bring in a reserve goalkeeper to push Whitehead for the number one jersey, Hahnemann could prove to be the perfect signing.
