The Royals veteran, who was out of contract at the end of the season, today signed a new deal that keeps him commited to the club until 2005.

The former Wolves man joins Alan Pardew, Marcus Hahnemann and Nicky Shorey in signing new deals at the club as the club attempt to build their squad for next season.

Williams, who was called up for the Welsh squad earlier in the season, has made in excess of 350 appearances for the Royals during two spells at the club.

Chairman John Madejski was pleased to have sealed a deal to keep Adie at the club for a further to years.

"I am delighted that we have been able to agree this new contract with Adie Williams," commented the Reading chairman.

"He has been a real stalwart for the club for many years and has captained the team with great distinction this season. I look forward to watching him in Reading colours for a long time to come."

Meanwhile, boss Alan Pardew was equally pleased to see Aide commit the twilight years of his career to Reading Football Club.

He added: "I'm very pleased that Adie has signed this contract. He has found his very best form for us this year and has been a real leader for us. His inclusion in the Welsh squad this season was no more than he deserved and maybe they need to take another look at him soon."

Ricky Newman, Jamie Cureton, Sammy Igoe, Adie Whitbread and a whole host of backroom staff are all expected to attempt to negotiate new deals soon. Cureton and Igoe are however expected to leave the club in the Summer.

Meanwhile, Reading's clash with Wolves, scheduled for Saturday 8th March has been rearranged for Wednesday 12th March, kick off 8pm at the Madejski Stadium. The change has been made because the Molineux side are still involved in the FA Cup.
