Williams and Brown are in today's starting line-up for Reading's behind-closed-doors reserve team game against Watford.

The defensive duo, who have both been sidelined with knee injuries, will be hoping that they can give Steve Coppell a pre-Christmas boost by announcing their imminent return.

In recent weeks Ivar Ingimarsson and John Mackie have been attempting to hold a make-shift Reading backline together, but to little effect, hopeless Stoke managed to smash three past the Royals on Saturday.

Welsh international Adie Williams revealed that although his injury is still hurting him, he hopes to be back in first team action very soon.

"I trained yesterday and I felt it on one or two occasions, only little tweaks and a bit of discomfort, but you've got to feel it to get through it. You need to test yourself when coming back from injury," explained the Royals centre-back, speaking to the official site.

"I'll play today and give it a go. Whether I get pulled off early or I play the whole match, we'll have to see. I'll play as long as I can."

Adie will be joined in the reserve team today by Martin Taylor, a young Blackburn Rovers centre-back who is on trial at Reading. You can read out story on his arrival at the Madejski Stadium here.

As Jamie Ashdown has renewed his loan deal with Rushden, Jamie Young plays in goal whilst recent signing Dean Morgan is another of the names in the starting line-up.
