The Royals conceded for the first time in eight matches on Saturday as they were beaten 2-0 by fellow play-off-chasers Sheffield United.

Jon Harley and then Dean Windass bacame the first players to penetrate Marcus Hahnemann's net since Richard Cresswell's goal for Preston way back on October 26th.

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock was delighted to see his side rack up another win at the expense of high-flying Reading, targetting his sides attacking approach as their reason for success.

"We were positive from the first whistle and it paid off - we thought it was the best way to go at them. We had enough possession in the first half, I felt we were a little apprehensive in the final third but our second half performance was rewarded," explained Warnock speaking to sufc.co.uk.

"The spirit of the team is evident and Stuart McCall, at 38, was overlapping at the final whistle."

Ironically, following the departure of loan signing Matthew Upson two Sheffield United loanees broke the Royals defence. Jon Harley from Fulham, and Dean Windass from Middlesbrough broke what many thought to be an unbeatable backline.

Warnock added: "Fulham and Middlesbrough deserve credit for helping us out. Jon Harley is playing very well at the moment and I am sure that there are far worse left-backs in the Premiership - he scored a fantastic goal.

"At the moment it looks like Dean Windass will go back to Middlesborough on Monday, but I will be speaking to Steve McClaren. It's down to the finances, Boro have been paying a large part of his wages.

"If we can't sign him we'll miss him but life goes on and Wayne Allison will come in whilst I look for another striker."

The result extends the Blades current run to seven matches without defeat. With a Worthington Cup Quarter-Final against Crystal Palace coming up on Tuesday they will certainly be full of confidence.
