Twenty-five-year-old Dave Kitson, still the club’s leading scorer despite two months out with injury, has signed a new three year contract with the club keeping him at the Madejski Stadium until 2008.

Kitson, fast becoming a fan's favourite, is seen as the potential season saviour. The striker’s second half strike at Crewe served to move him closer to the Gods in the eyes of the Royals faithful who have had to endure two months of diabolical football.

When offered a new deal, the forward was understandably delighted with the faith shown in him by the club.

In contrast, Nicky Forster didn’t even travel with the squad to Crewe as Coppell, speaking to the official believed that the striker's desire for a new contract was “weighing too heavily on his shoulders”.

Forster's contract expires in June, and at 31 time is starting to run out for the once prolific front man. With Coppell prepared to let the striker go out on loan, it seems the frontman’s days at the club are numbered

Speaking on the misfiring forward, Coppell commented: “He's been searching for goals all year, he's not been prolific and has been part of an attacking force that's not been producing.

“The contract is a big burden for him, he's not the player I saw before I came here and the one that the Reading fans remember.”
