Steve Coppell has left him out of the tour party to Sweden and has told the player it could be in his best interests to look elsewhere for a club.
"I have said to Sam at the moment, given the senior players we have here, he is down the list.
"Just out of common sense I have senior players who I will give priority to in pre-season and I told him I would not be taking him to Sweden with us and perhaps, if he can find himself a deal elsewhere, it could be in his best interests.
"I am not bombing him out, but I have just made him aware that if he stays then there are quite a few ahead of him.
"Centre-half is probably my healthiest position."
