Former Leyton Orient apprentice Nicky Shorey, who has made the left-back spot his own in the past year with some assured performances, is hoping for a win against Wednesday tonight to get some points on the board.

Looking ahead to the game Shorey told readingfc.co.uk: "I'm very much looking forward to tonight's game. We were disappointed on Saturday, but we can do better, and we want to get our season started now.

"We've got a tough first four games, but we're looking forward to playing tonight, and are hoping to give a good account of ourselves. We made a good start against Derby but we're trying to forget about that game and move onto the Sheffield Wednesday game and getting a result.

"The first home game of the season is always a good one, I'm sure the fans will get behind us like they always do."

Twenty-one year old left-back Nicky Shorey put in an assured display at Derby on Saturday and will be hoping to do the same again. Having taken crowd favourite Matt Robinson's place in the side last year big things are expected from young Nicky this season.
