Doyle was rested for the 0-0 draw at Coventry last weekend after two tiring appearances as a lone striker for the Republic of Ireland - but will come back as Coppell searches desperately for an end to his side's trials in front of goal.

The Royals have recorded goalless draws in their last two games as their descent from the automatic promotion places continued - and they have scored just seven goals in 13 games since thrashing Watford 4-0 at the start of January.

Striker Noel Hunt is back to full fitness after revealing this week that he had been struggling with a knee injury for the last three months and he could also feature, while elder brother Stephen Hunt is also pushing for a recall.

Midfielder Brynjar Gunnarsson could return after missing the Coventry draw with a hamstring but right-back Liam Rosenior completes a

two-match suspension.

Rosenior is also nursing a broken hand and with club captain Graeme Murty still out with the calf problem which has wrecked his campaign youngster Julian Kelly will continue. Ivar Ingimarsson will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

In the build-up to the game, Blades boss Kevin Blackwell was remaining coy over any selection issues.

Blackwell would only reveal that one unnamed player is struggling with a niggle picked up in the derby tussle with Barnsley, which extended the Blades' unbeaten run to nine.

United won that fixture 2-1 to move three points behind second-placed Birmingham in the battle for automatic promotion, despite being without defender Matthew Kilgallon and midfielder Stephen Quinn.

Kilgallon was missing with a neck problem and Quinn, previously an ever present, was ruled out with a back problem.

Blackwell revealed only one of the duo would travel to the Madejski Stadium, with the other staying behind. However, he did not name names.

John-Joe O'Toole, who is on-loan from Watford, replaced Quinn and scored against Barnsley on Tuesday and is poised to retain his place, while on-loan Fiorentina striker Arturo Lupoli was also on target at Bramall Lane and could be in line to start alongside Darius Henderson up front.
