Reading give Liverpool a right Royal scare

Liverpool have been knocked out of the Champions League, the League Cup and are trailing in the race for the Premier League so this competition is probably the most prestigious they can win this year.

They nearly went home empty handed though after a pumped up Reading pushed them all the way. Simon Church bundled home the opening goal on 24 mins but Steve Gerrard's long distance effort was dummied by the on side Dirk Kuyt leaving Federici beaten on 36 mins.

Apart from isolated moments Liverpool were finished as an attacking force but Fernando Torrez did nearly snatch a late victory but his header just cleared the bar.

Reading were always looking to push forward with Jobi McAnuff winning the Man of the Match award for his constant attacking play.

So full credit to Brian McDermott's side and best of luck to them in the replay on Wednesday January 13th.
