Reading flop at home in play offs

A disappointing home attendance of less than 20,000 for such a huge game was considerably less by the time the final whistle went. Two wonder goals from Paterson and Thompson for Burnley gave the Clartes a 2 - 0 on the night win and a 3 - 0 on aggregate comprehensive victory over Reading.

It's Burnley then that will face Sheffield Utd later this month for the chance to reach the Premier League.

Reading's early pressure didn't bring the goal needed to get back into the tie and then in the second half as the Royals allowed Martin Paterson the freedon of the Madejski to score a screamer past Hahnemann from 30 yards.

Soon after Steve Thompson got a lucky bounce after challenging for a long ball but then skill took over as he volleyed in from 20 yeards left footed over Hahnemann into the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Game over.
