In a match which will kick off at the Madejski Stadium tonight at 8pm Reading will entertain Alan Curbishley's Charlton side in the Royals' first home pre-season friendly.

Alan Pardew, a former Charlton player himself, has returned to his former club many times before aquiring the services of John Salako, Keith Jones and loan goalkeeper Ben Roberts from the London-based side.

The new season is just eight days away now, Reading will travel to Derby County's Pride Park for their opening fixture on Saturday August 10th.

With the big kick-off so close now it is vital that the Reading squad are match fit for the opening games.

Therefore Alan Pardew, will be using the Charlton game to get his players up to scratch. Speaking about the game, Pards told readingfc.co.uk: "It's an excercise for Derby so it's purely about getting ourselves ready and up to speed.

"It's a fitness and conditioning exercise, forget about tactics and shape, it's nothing to do with that as such. It's about getting the players up to speed and knowing their job."

The new sky-blue coloured third kit went on sale in the club megastore today. Prices range from £29.99 for children through to £39.99 for adults. The team will wear their new kit for the first, and according to cynics who think the Royals do not need another kit, the last time, against Charlton tonight.
