PARDS AFRAID WE WON'T BE PROMOTED!

Alan Pardew spoke of his fear that despite winning promotion to Division One he fears we might not get there as we may be kept down in order to make room for Rangers and Celtic. He told readingfc.co.uk:

"What worries me is that the League might become too big and someone will miss out. We fall into that category and that's the worrying part. Stoke and Brighton will also be thinking the same way and like all things, if Rangers and Celtic join it'll be great if you're part of it but won't be if you're not.”

He also said “If they come here and improve our situation in terms of a TV contract I'm all for it. I want to take this Club forward.”

"Tradition can just hold things back, we've had lots of different rule changes and they've all taken the game forward.”

Chief Executive Nigel Howe was slightly sceptical about the news, he told readingfc.co.uk:

"I think the major concern is still to resolve the income problem, ITV Digital. The main item on the (Football League's) agenda should be to get some money for the clubs in September, or as near to September as possible."

"(Celtic and Rangers joining) needs a lot of thinking. My personal view is that if we're going to integrate with the Scottish League we should do it totally, not just with two clubs because they're the biggest. I'd try to find an even situation which could include the integration of the whole league but that might never happen because there are too many political issues."
