Owusu Set For Reading Deal

Ex-Slough Town centre-foward Lloyd Owusu is set to seal a return to Berkshire within the next few days.

The 27-year-old Sheffield Wednesday man, who has spent the last three months on loan at the Madejski Stadium, is set to sign for Reading on a permanent basis.

Owusu has proven to be a flop at Sheffield Wednesday during his eigtheen month spell in Yorkshire, with a combination of injury and poor form preventing the ex-Brentford boy from making an impact at the Division Two club. But Coppell has stepped in to end the forward's Hillsborough hell.

Since signing for the Royals on loan in late December Owusu has re-discovered the form that encouraged the Owls to sign him two summers ago. The big frontman netted twice last Saturday as the Royals earnt a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace.

For Coppell the man of the match performance was enough to convince him that it is right to bring the Slough-born man to the Madejski Stadium on a permanent basis.

But the Royals must conclude the deal before transfer deadline day on March 25th. However Wednesday boss Chris Turner revealed today that the Owls have agreed a fee with Reading so the deal is approcahing its conclusion.

Turner told Wednesday's official site: "The ball is now in Reading's court to negotiate a contract with Lloyd and to tidy it all up. I don't foresee a problem but it is down to Lloyd."

Yet Reading Director of Football Nicky Hammond called for caution this evening, insisting that a deal is still some way from being concluded despite the progress that has been made.

"We've had some initial discussions with Chris Turner, and with Lloyd himself, but there is still an enormous amount to talk about before any potential deal could be concluded," said Hammond, speaking to Reading's official site.

Whether the transfer goes through swiftly or not, Owusu should partner Shaun Goater for Reading once more this weekend when Stoke City visit the Madejski Stadium.
