Steve Coppell decided to sell classy winger Scott Murray to Bristol City today for an undisclosed fee, potentially jepoardising the club's chances of achieving promotion this season.

On the day that the club sent out letters to fans telling them they would not be installing extractor fans in the East Stand because they would prefer invest the money in the team, the club revealed that they had sold £650,000 signing Scott Murray back to Bristol City.

The 29-year-old made a good impression in his opening games for the club late last Summer, but when Coppell took control of the club in October Murray began to fall from grace and in recent weeks has struggled to secure a spot on the bench.

Earlier this week the Robins had made an unsuccessful bid to take Murray back to Ashton Gate on loan but now City chairman Steve Lansdown has achieved the ultimate coop - re-uniting their twenty-seven goal hitman of last season with his former teammates.

Murray has signed a three-year deal with the promotion-chasing outfit, just eight months after he put pen to paper on a contract that made him a Reading player. He will wear squad number sixteen.

Meanwhile, the Robins have also successfully managed to lure to other ex-Reading midfielders to Ashton Gate. Anthony Rougier, who left the Royals last summer, has signed on a free transfer from Brentford whilst fat boy Darren Caskey has also signed for City on a free transfer.

Angry fans are tonight up-in-arms at the club's decision to sell Murray so early in his Reading career. The 29-year-old scored five times for the Royals and netted twice for the reserves yesterday as they over-powered Cambridge United yesterday.

Earlier this week Coppell spoke of enlarging his small squad, but with two incomings and one out-going Reading are looking decidedly stretched as they approach the season's finale.
