Reading's spectacular 3-1 victory hinged on ex-Spanish under 21 striker Pablo Counago's sixty-seventh minute dismissal for a shove on Royals defender Adie Williams.

With the Royals riding their luck just a solitary goal ahead of the visitors the Spaniard received his marching orders, angering Mowbray.

"Pablo told me he was trodden on but you can't raise your hands. I suppose it's his Latin temperament, but he'll learn from it and I'm sure it won't happen again," said Mowbray in his post-match anger.

The stand is boss was pleased with what he saw on the field going forward, it was an improvement on some of the dismal Tractor Boy's performances of late. However, defensively they were somewhat less than impressive.

Mowbray added: "I thought the signs were there when we went forward, but we shot ourselves in the foot by giving away some bad goals again.

"The passing and movement is starting to come off, but we have to be more consistent. I was particularly disappointed that the first goal came from a free-kick because we work so hard in training to stop that sort of thing."

Despite being linked with moves for the likes of Roy Hodgson, Bryan Robson, Ronnie Moore, Mick McCarthy and Peter Reid Ipswich are still no closer to deciding a successor to the dismissed George Burley.
