Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has signed a new contract to keep him at the Madjeski Stadium until 2013. The 20-year-old has yet to feature for the first team but made 45 appearances on loan at League One side Yeovil last season and has been included in the England Under-21 squad to face Uzbekistan on Tuesday. Director of football Nick Hammond said: "We are very pleased to have secured Alex's services for the next three years. "He is an outstanding young goalkeeper who has already gained a lot of experience of league football and if he continues to work hard and improve he has a very bright future."
