Mackie Out of Brentford Showdown / Williams Fit

Last updated : 15 April 2002 By Rob Cooper
After limping off with an ankle injury Royal's fans feared the worst, suspecting former Crawley defender John Mackie had suffered a fracture and would miss the start of next season. Fortunately an x-ray has shown that this is not the case although his season is now over and he will miss the play offs should we bin them.

Physio Jon Fearn explained to readingfc.co.uk just what Mackie had done. "He's got whats called an avulsion injury with some tiny bone damage. He's also damaged the left ligament on the outside of the ankle."

"It should keep him out for six to eight weeks".

Adie Williams, who had to be substituted half way through Saturday's game with Peterborough, will be fit to return to the team next weekend. He is expected to partner Adie Viveash. Williams told readingfc.co.uk "I saw the doctor (at half time) and there was no way I could carry on, but I'm well over it now".

Meanwhile, Graeme Murty & Nicky Forster were selected in the Division Two team of the year. The pair have been in fantastic form for the Royals recently, Forster is top scorer with eighteen goals whilst Murty, favourite for the Player of the Season Award, has had a solid year at right back.

The attendance of 22,151 for Saturday's clash with Peterborough moved up our average attendance still further and above Stoke's, Reading now have Division Two's highest average attendance. But Saturday's crowd was quite a way behind the all time Madejski record attendance of 23,032 for last season's Play Off Semi Final Second Leg with Wigan Athletic.
