"I think maybe it could have been a red but hopefully on the opening day of the season people are just a little over-enthusiastic or mistime their tackles slightly," said Kitson.
"Chris came and apologised to me afterwards and there's no hard feelings. It's just a strange one because I went to turn with the ball on the halfway line and didn't expect a tackle from a centre half on the halfway line like that.
"Fingers crossed I'll get back as quickly as I can. There's an international break where obviously I won't be playing which is a good thing on this occasion.
"I just want to get fit and strong and get back there."
