Jones, N Smith & Robinson Leave, Igoe Stays

Former Chelsea and Charlton midfielder Jones has been at the club since the summer of 2000. At the age of thirty-six it is unlikely that he will play again. He made seventeen appearances this season.

Neil Smith's exit is somewhat surprising, he has had a fairly good season, playing fourteen times, scoring three goals. The former Fulham midfielder, who recently turned thirty, looks set to join a second or third division club.

Matt Robinson, who has been hit by injury this season has found himself surplus to requirements. After some less than impressive performances at the start of the season he found himself in the reserves, forced out by young starlet Nicky Shorey. The former Pompey defender played sixteen times this season.

Fans favourite Sammy Igoe should stay though, the club are currently locked in contract negotiations with him. There had been speculation that the 5ft 6in twenty-six year old was set to leave the club this summer but Alan Pardew told readingfc.co.uk; “I had no doubt I wanted to sign Sammy, I just thought it was unfair on all the other players if I gave him a contract at a time when it was critical for us. I tried to reassure him that he would get something and he will get offered something at this club and I hope he signs, I'm sure he will.”

Third division York City claim that they are owed £50,000 because of a clause in Graeme Murty's contract. If Reading were promoted it was written into the contract that they must pay an extra £50,000 however, Murty has since signed a new contract. The case has been refered to the Football League who will make their decision shortly.

Meanwhile, the Police are investigating incidents involving Brentford and Reading fans during and after Saturday's crucial clash.
