Is Coppell losing the crowd?

After ten league matches without victory there are signs that the Reading faithful are beginning to lose their patience.

A restless and unsettled crowd at the Madejski on Saturday witnessed yet another lacklustre performance far below Reading's early season promotion-chasing form.

In truth, Leicester also offered little. Summing things up nicely Foxes manager Craig Levein commented: 'I'm glad I didn't pay to watch it'.

Boos rang out around the stadium at half time, and again at full time, with some angry spectators who’d wasted £20 and an afternoon mouthing abuse at players and manager as they trudged out of the stadium.

Steve Coppell has commented that the crowd just aren’t doing enough to get behind the team at the moment – but angry supporters are having none of it – making the Madejski Stadium very uncomfortable for supporters, players and coaching staff.

The pressure seems to be getting to Coppell as he angrily reacted to some of the comments directed at him and others, yet he remains unable to explain the poor performance.

Although Coppell made several changes to his team yesterday, there was precious little pressure on the Leicester goal, and the first half performance was amongst the worst of an increasingly dismal season.

Despite the manager’s comments the Reading faithful have remained loyal to players and manager during the present bad run of form, but it appears that even their positive attitude is beginning to go.

Coppell needs to urgently find a way to reignite the passion, belief and fighting spirit that took this club to it’s highest ever league position at the beginning of the season before John Madejski is forced to take more drastic action.
