Igoe Igone

Twenty-seven-year-old midfielder Sammy Igoe is shortly expected to complete a move to Second Division Swindon Town.

The signing of Igoe on a two-year contract will be a massive boost for Swindon, a side who have being struggling to stay in existence in recent years.

Speaking to the Reading Evening Post the now former Royals star said: "Swindon have made me an offer and faxed me a copy of the contract and now it's just a case of sorting out a few little things."

Many Royals fans were surprised and disappointed at Igoe's spectacular fall from grace at the Madejski that has culminated in his departure. Indeed, when called upon the 5ft 6in winger worked wonders and staked a claim for a regular first-team spot, a spot he was never given.

It is fair to say that Igoe's replacement Luke Chadwick failed really to fill the number fourteen's little boots sufficiently. It seems bizarre that Alan Pardew is preparing to pay in excess of £500,000 to bring Scott Murray or an alternative winger to the club when he could easily and cheaply renewed Sammy's contract.

The feisty mini winger went onto reveal that his prospective new employers have been telling him that they believe they have a chance of promotion to the first Division next season. Now that is funny.

Igoe added: "Obviously I want to play in as high a division as I can but I've been told by the manager and people in and around the club that they are really going to go for it next season.

"I know they are trying to bring in another couple of players and if they do that and I go there then I would fancy our chances of promotion."

Luton Town had been favourites to sign Igoe after a successful loan spell with the Kenilworth Road towards the back-end of last season. Major boardroom problems that saw boss Joe Kinnear sacked put paid to any chances of such a deal.

Despite giving three years excellent service to the Royals don't expect Igoe to get a warm reception should he ever return come up against Reading with his new employers.
