Howe Lambasts Mis-Firing Duo

Howe is incensed at Butler and Cureton's lack of desire to win their first team spot back.

The pair, who are both look all set for a summer departure, have failed to even make the subs bench in recent games as Alan Pardew has chosen rookie forwards Darius Henderson and Nathan Tyson ahead of the more experienced partnership.

Cureton is believed to be seeking a lucrative new pay scheme as well as first team assurances before putting pen to paper on a new deal. However, if he continue to perform as in recent weeks it is highly likely that he will leave on a bosman.

Butler, who shares the same agent, could also be set for a summer exit after putting in untypically half-hearted performances this season. However, Butts appears less keen on a Madejski exit. Seemingly happy to sit in the reserves he has turned down offers from Preston, Stoke and Luton.

"We haven't got a massive squad and Alan Pardew is a very fair manager in my opinion," said an angry Nigel Howe, speaking to the Reading Chronicle.

"If Jamie and Martin were in the first team squad I could understand their position and their argument but they're not.

"You've got to put Martin and Jamie's situations into perspective. Their job now is to get themselves back into the team and that's all they should be doing instead of worrying about a lot of other stuff."

But Howe admits that they won't be going anywhere until the summer as Alan Pardew hasn't got a very large squad and needs all the back-up he can get.

The Chief Executive added: "Unless somebody makes me an offer I can't refuse they won't be going anywhere right now.

"As yet, the phone hasn't rung once."
