Hess- No Reading move for Payne

Last updated : 21 October 2010

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has denied that Reading have shown any interest in youngster Jack Payne. Payne has impressed for the Gills this season but Hessenthaler was quick to deny claims that any approach has been made after the Royals were linked with a move for the talented midfielder. "We don't know whether it's the agent putting the story out there or Reading as a club we don't want that," he told the club's official website. "Sometimes an agent will place an article like that to try and turn the players head but we want him to focus on playing for us. "I suspect it's the agent and that just goes to show what a problem agents can be, but then you do need them at times, if you are after a player, they can help you on that front. "I think it is disruptive to the player because Jack is very level-headed and he's playing very well at the moment."
