Gamble Seeks New Dimension

Pards is hoping that he can send his Republic of Ireland under 21 star out on loan in order to gain some valuable experience and an 'extra dimension' to his play.

The 20-year-old recently spent some time at Carlisle United and played in a friendly against Newcastle. However, a possible loan deal fell through when Gamble sustained an injury.

Joe Gamble hasn't yet played for the first team this season, despite making several substitute appearnces last year. Alan Pardew believes he must stand out from the rest before he can be a first team regular.

"He needs to show something more, something different that will make him stand out from the rest and that's what I've told him. The problem is that Joe is small and every club has a midfielder like that," explained Pardew.

"He played okay against Newcastle reserves but he has given the ball away a couple of times recently and he's got to make that part of his game absolutely secure because he plays in an exposed area.

"He also wants to play a bit higher up the pitch and be a threat around the box. I believe he can do both things. He's got a terrific attitude and works very hard."

When an opportunity arises Pardew is hoping to farm Gamble out on loan so that he gains some valuable first team experience and help him develop as a player.

"It's going to be difficult to get him out on loan anywhere and the same goes for a few other players. Once he does go out I'm sure it won't take him long to add a new dimension to his game."
