Even a win at Derby might not save Reading

Last updated : 07 May 2008 By Angus Muller
A return of just 2 points from the last 18 available has dropped Reading into the relegation zone and taken survival out of their own hands.

What's also alarming is that in those 6 games Reading haven't scored a single goal. Now to survive Reading must do better that Fulham and be no worse than Birmingham on the final day.

There are several scenario's. Reading of course must look to beat already relegated Derby. Defeat at Pride Park would guarantee relegation for Reading. A draw is good for Reading only if Fulham lose and Birmingham fail to win. A Reading win would relegate Birmingham City whatever they do against Blackburn. But it would only save the Royals if Fulham fail to win at Portsmouth.

A Fulham win and a Reading win would still see Reading going down unless they can score 6 more goals than Fulham do.
