Royals were thrashed 4-2 by Crystal Palace in their own backyard on Tuesday night and have won just once in the league at home in the last 11 months.
And Rodgers believes part of the reason for that horrendous run is because players are afraid of the ball.
He told the Chronicle: "I really felt we could get a positive result from the Palace game. But we didn't start brightly enough and it carried on from there.
"I don't mind if we're a bit more solid away from home but at the Madejski we have to show a bit more invention and creativity.
