DC United technical director Dave Kasper reckons young protégé Bobby Convey could complete a sensational transfer to Reading within the next seven days.

Whilst the official line from the Madejski Stadium is 'no comment', Kasper revealed that the Royals are in negotiations with the MLS (the American league who hold the registrations of all players) in a desperate bid to sign the twenty-six times capped USA international.

"I'm waiting confirmation from the league right now, they are negotiating," revealed Kasper, speaking to the Washington Times.

Kasper reckons that the 21-year-old left-winger could very soon be on his way to the Madejski Stadium.

"I would think if it (the transfer) is going to happen, it will happen within the next week or so," he added.

"They (Reading) are going to want to get Bobby over and get a medical done and they're going to want to file papers for his work permit."

Whilst some reports are estimating that the Royals are preparing to pay in the region of $1m (£550,000) for Convey, the Washington Times reckon the fee will be nearer $2m.

Convey will not play in DC United's game against Richmond Kickers tonight in the fourth round of the US Cup because of a bruised thigh, raising the possiblity that he has played his last game for the MLS side.

DC United's 15-year-old superstar Freddy Adu could make a rare start in Convey's absence. The teenage superstar, widely viewed as one of the world's hottest prospects, shot to fame at the age of 13 when the likes of Manchester United and Roma were courting the young American who eventually signed for DC.
