Coppell has insisted that none of Reading's top players will be leaving as rumours grow about the future of some of the club's top players.

Rumours in the weekend's press had linked Sidwell with a £1.5m move to struggling Rangers whilst star striker Nicky Forster has also been linked with a move to the Premiership.

Having failed to live up to lofty automatic promotion expectations this season it has become inevitable that Reading's top stars will be linked with moves away from the club. Whilst a £1m+ offer would be hard to resist for any of our first team players, Coppell insists he does not want to have his squad broken up.

"This club won't progress by selling its best players and I'll certainly do everything in my powers to resist not just Sidwell, but all those who I consider to be key players leaving," said the Royals boss to the official site.

Coppell's statement may appear bullish enough, compare it with one-year ago when Sir Alex Ferguson was insisting that David Beckham would stay at Manchster United. Six months later he was making his Real Madrid debut.

In reality, if a decent offer was to come in for Steve Sidwell or any of our top players Reading MAD fully expect the club to sell up so that Coppell can re-invest in other areas of the team.

Realistically Sidwell could be grazing in pastures new six months from now. Aston Villa, Charlton and Birmingham are all reported to have had scouts watching him this season.

The Royals, who currently only have small sums of money to play with, could surely be tempted to sell. The figures we have to spend barely match up to the hundreds of thousands the likes of West Ham and Norwich have been investing this season, so an injection of capital from selling a top player would be more than welcome.
