Coppell happy for Long and Federici

"To score from that position was great, he's a quick player and it's not just physical speed, it's also speed of thought," said Steve Coppell regarding Shane Long's goal from an acute angle.

"Not too many people would have tried to score from there."

Coppell also handed Adam Federici a debut in goal and he was happy with the keeper's performance at The Madejski Stadium.

He added: "I thought he made a couple of excellent saves."

Burnley boss Steve Cotterill bemoaned his teams defending.

"We were never going to get anything from the game with that defending, but, having said that, if we'd taken our chances, we could have won the game 5-3 or more.

"It was a spirited fightback, but too late in the day, as we gave away three poor goals.

"I'm probably more disappointed with our defending than our finishing.

"The Long goal was a superb finish and I don't want to take anything away from him, but I'm talking about the build-up to it, that was very poor from our point of view."
