Church services

By Team Talk
Thursday, 4th February 2010
Royals hitman Simon Chhurch has performed well this season and helped his side claim famous FA Cup victories over Liverpool and Burnley.

Those impressive displays have reportedly alerted a number of clubs, including Liverpool, but the 21-year-old does not believe it would benefit his career to leave the Madejski Stadium at the current time.

He told skysports: "Obviously, it is a great confidence boost to hear my name linked with Premier League clubs, but I'm happy playing Championship football week in, week out at Reading and I feel that I need that behind me before I even think about making the step up.

"Playing in the Premier League would obviously be a dream come true, as it is for most players, but at this stage I'm still gaining experience and learning my trade.

"If that opportunity comes up then I will consider it at that time, but for now I just want to keep learning and help the club out of the situation it is in at the moment."

This season's Championship relegation battle could involve the likes of Reading, Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday, who have all recently spent time in the top flight.

Church believes the situation shows just how tough the division is this term.

"It is a bit of a strange one this season, but it is just one of those leagues that is so unpredictable and you've got to really fight for every point because anyone can beat anyone," he explained.

"A lot of people may say that we don't deserve to be where we are, but we need to dig ourselves out of it."
