Ashdown Hopes To Become A Loan Man

Twenty-two-year-old shotstopper Jamie Ashdown, who has made just six first team appearances for Reading, is hoping to go out on loan to a lower league club.
The youngster, a product of the Reading Youth Academy, has failed to break into the first team as USA international Marcus Hahnemann is an ever-present between the sticks.

Indeed, a first team start against Brentford in Tuesday's pre-season friendly only came around because Hahnemann has been given extra time off due to his international commitments.

"I suppose I'll only get in if there is an injury, which isn't a nice way of thinking," said Ashdown.

Ashdown spent a month on loan at Bournemouth this time last season but only played twice due to injury problems. Despite the lack of action, the youngster enjoyed his tenure on the South Coast and is hoping to go out on loan once more.

However, with his partner expecting their first child in September, don't expect Ashdown to be opting for the Madejski Stadium exit for a while at least.

"It's going to be difficult to go on loan straight away, but I'll speak to the manager and hopefully get a loan later in the season," added Ashdown, speaking to readingfc.co.uk.

"I'd rather go to a Division Two side, but if another club stepped in from Division Three then I'd be happy to do that."
