Reading V Southampton - Ticket Info

Last updated : 22 June 2003 By Rob Cooper
Tickets for Reading's pre-season clash with Southampton are to go on sale tomorrow (Monday 23rd June).

The game against the Saints is scheduled for Friday 1st August, kick off 8pm.

Prices have been heavily reduced following a stream of complaints about over-charging for pre-season friendlies last year. Indeed, for clashes against Charlton and West Ham the Royals drew sub 8,000 crowds.

This year, when booked in advance, before 25th July, tickets cost just £10 for adults and £1 for students. Last year, in comparison, fans were charged £15 for an adults ticket and £6 for children.

Despite reducing the prices Madejski Stadium officials are bracing themselves for another pathetic turnout, unless tickets sell well the club plan to open just the East and Lower West Stands for the fixture.

Reading MAD suspect that the turnout will be rather bigger than the gloomy predictions forecast. The price cuts, coupled with the fact that there is just one home friendly this season should see fans come back for pre-season in their droves.

When you add into the mixture the fact that supporters have had to endure a horrific football-free summer with no World Cup or European Championships they will be positively gagging to see the Royals once more, even if it is just a pre-season friendly.

The FA Cup Finalists last visited the Madejski Stadium two years ago, with the game resulting in a 1-1 bore draw. In the scorching sunshine members of a 5,000 strong crowd who weren't asleep saw a last minute Gary Monk strike cancel out Keith Jones' opener.

The Saints side could include the likes of Antti Neimi, the highly-rated Finnish goalkeeper, England internationals Wayne Bridge and James Beattie and up and coming star Chris Baird.
